Across social media platforms, people have been comparing life in 2026 to 2016 – a year that seems to be provoking nostalgia and reflection on how much has changed over the past decade. Here at The Green Quarter, 2016 was a decisive year. It marked the approval of our updated masterplan, signalling the beginning of an ambitious journey to regenerate this former gasworks site into a vibrant, sustainable new neighbourhood that the whole community in and around Southall can enjoy and be a part of.

10 years later, this vision is becoming a reality. This year is especially meaningful for us, as 2026 marks five years since The Green Quarter welcomed its very first residents and since then, it has transformed into a thriving, lively neighbourhood, providing homes for local people, restoring nature and biodiversity and delivering an inclusive, mixed-use space where residents, businesses and community groups come together every day.

During this time, we have opened a range of new community spaces, including Central Gardens, a new public park featuring playgrounds, waterways and an amphitheatre designed for shared enjoyment. Public access to the canal, via The Green Quarter, has been introduced for the first time in over 150 years, and at the heart of our neighbourhood, Parkside Yards is a busy community hub, creating a welcoming place for people of all interests and ages to come together and work, play, eat, drink and exercise.

Parkside Yards has supported the launch and growth of new local businesses, from Southall Coffee House to Yarn Tings, Clean Slate Dry Cleaners and the incredibly popular Brilliant Gastro restaurant, all now based at the heart of The Green Quarter. Alongside this, we have built strong partnerships with local charities such as Ealing Mencap. Through The Green Quarter Community Chest fund, a number of Southall-based projects have received vital support, most recently Hope for Southall Street Homeless and Ultra Education CIC, benefit people across our community.

And the momentum is not stopping now. With exciting announcements on the horizon, 2026 promises to be another landmark year for The Green Quarter. Keep your eyes on this page, we’ll be sharing our latest community news and upcoming events very soon.
